All VANCA CRAFT products are made from 100% genuine cowhide leather. It is also Vegetable Tanned, which is a method of strengthening leather that has a history of well over a thousand years.
Vegetable tanning is a process that uses natural materials like plant fibres, to penetrate the structure of the leather and strengthen it for longevity and quality.
Due to this traditional method of strengthening, the leather may feel slightly firm at first. However, It will soften slightly as it adapts to your daily use.
Over time, exposure to sunlight, air, and the natural oils from your hands will deepen the colour of the leather and create a natural sheen over it.
This process of aging is called developing a patina and it is why leather is such a highly sought after material. Over time the leather product will develop its own unique visual characteristics as it becomes one of a kind!

Natural Characteristics
As Leather is a natural material, each item may have slightly different leather grain.
These characteristics are only very minor and hardly visible, only to the keenest of eyes!
Rest assured, these are not defects, our craftsmen ensure that they only use the best sections of the leather hide for our products. We want to bring the best quality products to you!
This slight difference in grain creates opportunity for each product to be unique and one of a kind once they start to develop a patina.

Our company began as an artisan workshop, and our products are created using unique techniques carried through generations.
Our craftsmen shape and assemble the leather by hand, creating an eye catching sense of 3 dimensionality. This is a distinctive feature of VANCA CRAFT products as it is a unique way to work with leather. Founded in 1890, we have continued to develop this distinctive method of craft for many years.
For these reasons, our products are closer to leather craft art than conventional leather goods.
Each piece is carefully handmade, and no two items are exactly alike.
